Anderson to miss first three ODIs

Anderson to miss first three ODIs

cricket news

James Anderson has been given a well-earned rest and will miss both Twenty20 matches and the first three one-day internationals.

The 28-year-old has been endured a heavy workload in a successful Ashes series, in which he silenced the doubters by taking 24 wickets to comfortably finish as the leading wicket-taker.

The Burnley Express was the only touring fast bowler to have played in all five Tests though, with only Graeme Swann bowling more overs, and has been given some time off to recharge his batteries ahead of the World Cup.

Anderson, who has already returned to England to attend the birth of his daughter, will have 10 days back home away from cricket completely before returning to Australia ahead of the fourth ODI on January 26.

Steven Finn will remain with the squad in Anderson's absence, before he flies out to the West Indies to join up with the England Lions later in the month.

Craig Kieswetter has also been ruled out of both T20s as he needs minor surgery to cure an abscess and he will be replaced in the squad by left-handed opener Michael Lumb, who is currently playing for Queensland Bulls.
