Andrew Strauss resumes the captaincy after sitting out the T20 clashes and he has backed the misfiring Paul Collingwood to find his form when England take on Australia in the ODI series.

Collingwood was in dire form in the Test series and showed little signs of improvement during the two T20 games. Collingwood scored only 83 runs in the Ashes and made scores of 16 and six in the T20 internationals.

He is under scrutiny to perform with the World Cup on the horizon and Strauss is convinced the Durham man will come good.

"He's been a bit out of touch in the Test matches, but it's a very different form of the game," Strauss said. "His record in one-day cricket over the last year has been very good.

"He brings a lot to the side apart from his batting - but his batting is crucial to us. We're expecting him to come back strong. He's a strong character and resilient bloke. There have been plenty of incidences in the past where he has come back with a bang."

England will name their World Cup squad on Wednesday and there will be strong competition for places among the batsmen for a spot in the 15.
