Alastair Cook is disappointed not to be involved with England's one-day side ahead of the forthcoming ICC World Cup in India.

Cook was the leading run scorer during the recent Ashes series, notching over 700 during the course of an impressive 3-1 victory in the longer form of the game, but is no longer with the touring party in Australia as they embark on their Twenty20 and One Day International commitments.

The 26-year-old always knew that was going to be the case, but believes he can score runs in any form of the game at international level and could have been a valuable member of the one-day setup if selected. Despite the disappointment of missing out this time, he hopes he will get the chance to represent his country at a World Cup at some point in his career.

"I desperately want to play as many times for England and when you are in form and scoring runs it is almost a double-edged sword as you know you can keep going well, but the selectors have been planning for this World Cup for a long time and I was not part of that planning," Cook said. "It is a tough call, but one day I hope to get another chance."

England now face a seven-match ODI series against Australia in preparation for the World Cup, which they will begin against Holland in Nagpur on February 22.
